The Third Generation
The film follows the journey of teenagers from Jerusalem to the death camps in Poland, while dealing with the difficulties, complexities, questions, queries and thoughts that arise in and between the different destinations of the trip. From the horrors of the death camps to the evening talks in the hotel lobby and the teen like climatic decompression within the rooms late at night. The film tells not only the story of this particular journey, but tries to draw a portrait of the third generation in Israel. The journey’s political and ideological use, especially in these crucial moments of adolescence, when one still forms his identity, are a point for debate and conflict in the Israeli discourse. I went on this trip along with my classmates and a video camera, and edited it in the years that followed.
